Five researchers at PHRI have been included in Highly Cited Researchers 2018 – more than a third of the 17 McMaster University researchers included – as compiled by Clarivate Analytics’ Web of Science, the world’s largest publisher-neutral citation index. The list recognizes world-class researchers selected for their exceptional research performance, demonstrated by production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in Web of Science.
Drs. Salim Yusuf, PJ Devereaux, Stuart Connolly and John Eikelboom, senior scientists and program leads at PHRI, and the late Janice Pogue, formerly a biostatistician at PHRI, made the esteemed Highly Cited Researchers list.
The papers surveyed were those published and cited during 2006-2016 and which, at the end of 2016, ranked in the top 1% by citations for their year and ESI field (the definition of a highly cited paper). The threshold number of highly cited papers for selection differs by field, with Clinical Medicine requiring the most, and Agricultural Sciences, Economics & Business, and Pharmacology & Toxicology the fewest.
The Highly Cited Researchers list represent more than 60 countries/regions, but 82.7% of them are from just 10 and 70.2% from the first five countries, a remarkable concentration of top talent. Canada ranked as number 7 (behind US, UK, China Mainland, Germany Australia and the Netherlands), with a total of 166 Canadian Highly Cited Researchers.
