PHRI senior scientist Richard Whitlock’s Canada Research Chair in Cardiovascular Surgery has been renewed, as part of the latest round of federal funding to support research across the country.
The Government of Canada announced more than $153 million to fund 179 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs. Whitlock is one of seven McMaster University researchers recognized in the Spring 2025 round. He was first awarded the inaugural Canada Research Chair in Cardiovascular Surgery in 2020.
Whitlock is the lead investigator for several major CIHR-funded trials, including SIRS, LAAOS III, and TRICS III, which have built a network of more than 120 centres worldwide to answer critical questions in cardiac care.
